The ZTL-11 is already in service with the Chinese armed forces, and was first showed to the public in September 2015 during a military parade in Beijing to commemorate the end of the World War II in Asia.
According military sources, the ZTL-11 is based on the ZBD-09 using an 8x8 military chassis. The vehicle is also referred as ZTL-09, a fire support vehicle which is fitted with a two man turret armed with a 105mm cannon. It has a crew of four, including commander, driver, gunner and loader.
This vehicle is made on a welded steel armor hull with add-on ceramic armor modules. Chinese sources claim that the hull and turret of the vehicle provides protection against weapons firing 25 mm armor-piercing rounds at the front and 12.7 mm armor-piercing ammunition all-around the vehicle.
The ZTL-11 is fully amphibious and propelled in the water thanks two waterjets mounted at the rear of the chassis.

Der ZTL-11 ist ein modernes chinesisches Feuerunterstützungsfahrzeug auf Rädern. Für den Antrieb sorgt ein einzelner Deutz BF6M1015C Dieselmotor mit einer Leistung von 440 PS, der das Fahrzeug auf ca. 100 km/h beschleunigen lässt. Die Bewaffnung des Fahrzeugs bestand aus einer einzelnen 105-mm-Gewehrkanone und zwei 7,62-mm- und 12,7-mm-Maschinengewehren.
ZTL-11 wurde auf Basis des Fahrgestells des achträdrigen Schützenpanzers (IFV) Type 08 (andere Bezeichnung: ZBL-08) vom chinesischen Rüstungskonzern Norinco entwickelt und in Produktion genommen. Seine Hauptaufgabe besteht darin, die eigene Infanterie bei einem Angriff direkt mit Feuer zu unterstützen, die permanenten Widerstandspunkte des Feindes zu zerstören und seine leicht gepanzerten Fahrzeuge zu zerstören. Der ZTL-11 bietet seiner Besatzung Schutz vor Handfeuerwaffen und Artilleriegranatensplittern, kann aber - wahrscheinlich - leicht durch ATGM-Feuer aus dem Kampf eliminiert werden. Das Fahrzeug zeichnet sich durch eine hohe Mobilität im Gelände aus, es hat auch die Fähigkeit, Wasserhindernisse ohne besondere Vorbereitung zu überwinden.
